Birchfield Primary School in Barnsley have been enjoying a new LED lighting upgrade thoughout the entire school which was funded with the help of a Government backed Salix Loan.
Andy Sharp, Facilities Manager at the school had this to say about the project:

Did you know that the Government backed Salix scheme enables schools to upgrade to LED lighting without an upfront payment and that you're school could also be eligible? Once the loan (which is awarded following a free lighting survey) has been repaid by the energy cost savings achieved, you can enjoy the extra money in your budget. So win, win.
The Salix Loan is available to all schools, colleges & universities to help them improve their energy efficiency and reduce bills. LED lighting improves the quality of light in classrooms (especially during the winter months), lasts significantly longer than other bulbs (so reduces maintenance costs), and is safer because it emits virtually no heat.
The Salix Energy Efficiency Fund (SEEF) was set up in partnership with the ESFA (Education & Skills Funding Agency) to offer interest-free government funding to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and lower energy bills throughout public sector organisations.
We are currently working with schools throughout the North of England on their projects, or to help them apply for their funding.
